Al Boom Diving, together with our partners, have placed man made reef sites off the coast of Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort in Fujairah and the Jebel Ali, Dubai Golf Resort and Spa in Dubai. Reef balls, from the Reefball Foundation are being manufactured for this purpose.
The Reef Ball Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization that functions as an international environmental organization. The foundation uses Reef Ball artificial reef technology, combined with coral propagation, transplant technology, public education and community training to build, restore and protect coral reefs. The foundation has established “Reef Ball reefs” in over 56 countries with ongoing projects in 14 additional countries (giving a total of over 70 countries).
Man’s activities and natural disasters have led to a reduction in our natural reef systems. The loss of our natural systems, coupled with increased use, compels us to do all that we can to save the natural coral reefs.
To increase the number of coral reef areas in the UAE, Al Boom Diving has started the Reef ball project.
Although Al Boom Diving is the primary party in this project, we have the assistance of some other companies. Other parties involved in the project are: the Emirates Diving Association, Le Meridien Al Aqah, the Jebel Ali, Dubai Golf Resort and Spa, Lootah Construction, Project Aware, ISAC school, Ripcurl and a number of others.
How the public can help:
Sponsor a reefball! Sponsorship of a single reef ball costs 200 Dhs. Get your company or school involved and place a plaque onto the reefballs. Complete diving, marine biology and eco education programmes together with the project!
